Two sides of the same coin....

For the heads that know me, they see me as a very optimistic person. I liked to think that they are right all the time. I am very critical and have learned that it is good to see how one can improve something and what they have done well already. Most of my entries are positive and that is exactly how my outlook is. However, I am not perfect so I have my days.

One event that Shiny Nickely Productions (True Talent, what up!) and LOB Entertainment put together, Womanifestation (and yes, I realize I am so late with this....it happened on March 26th...), was a dope one. I am not going to get into the history of it because this event goes way back. However, we have been promoting this joint like crazy. 5,000 flyers, radio announcements, discussing it at other events. We were out there (Zulu!!!!!). I will say that it was scheduled for a Sunday night (not a good idea in this part of the United States... ) but we were confident in the date and we really promoted it. Not only did we promote it in the Hampton Roads area but in Richmond as well.

My wife and I arrived late. The attendance was skimpy but it was still just 8pm. I helped her set up and True Talent asked me to hold down the door. I was cool with it (yes, i forgot to give out the tickets for the door prizes half the time, but I kept seeing folks i have not seen in ages. But it was dope.

Ghagged was there with her brother Triple M. HEr set was just the dopest. As usual Ghagged just ripped the stage. It was good to see her rock. She is so beautiful as well. I miss her so much and miss our bugged out hip hop sessions. Ghangali was there. She did a dope job. I wish the Gypcees would get back together. Oh well, beggars can't be choosy, especially us black ones. But she did her thing as well. She has a hypewoman with her. I have seen them rock together at Happily Natural Day in 2005, but that was the first time i seen a hypewoman. She is dope. They killed it. THere was a comedienne who did her thing but cut her set short because she claimed it was too raunchy (we were in a church). She was funny, though.

THis one sister, Amoreena Wade, sang. She did mostly covers but she did her thing. It was dope because she brought her entire family along. I ws impressed. So were the brothers. Dj A+ did his thing on the 1's and 2's. the show itself was dope.

Yet the turnout was wack. Alot of heads told me they were coming through but didn't. I see several reasons why:

1. the time... it was sunday evening. Most folks are winding down from a busy weekend. FOr many, Sunday is the only time they have to themselves. Plus it was late evening and many folks have to get ready for the dreary Monday work day.

2. It was a church.... Some folks want to get their drink on or their party on. They don't feel right trying to mack at a church (well decent folks have this issue....). I mean i can't expect folks to roll like me, I see a church building as just that: a building. (I am sure True Talent heard complaints about my comments such as the Bible being sexist and that the Gods and Earths are my Lords...oh well).

3. folks being plain foul. Some folks prefer to spend a dime on a bag of weed instead of support a local event. well to each his own

it was one of the dopest shows I attend this year.
