Wow...
I did a short piece on voting and NO ONE leaves a comment. I talked to my brother Dolo about that this weekend while i was in NYC. We pointed out how the electoral college is discussed in Elementary school, well actually, glossed over. Then it is never mentioned again. Even when you see polls on CNN about the Electoral College, no one pays it any mind.
In the latest issue of XXL (which was edited by Dave Chappelle), there was a round table discussion conducted by Mr. Chappelle himself that featured Dead Prez, Talib Kweli, Kanye West, and Common. It was not all that. I thought the issue would be worth it but its not. Well there is a nice section that gives you an overview of all of Chappelle's episodes. Other than that, its all fluff and made to sell issues.
The roundtable discussion could have been deleted and XXL should have just allowed Mr. Chappelle a nice long editorial. He did most of the talking and jewel dropping. Common, Kanye, and Talib talked in circles (which i am getting sick of-- alot of these so called conscious artists really don't know anything....but that's another blog) . Dead Prez dropped much jewels. One of them (from Dead Prez of course) stated how when Russell Simmons comes around asking folks to vote and not educating them on how the system works, then he is committing a crime. I wholeheartedly agree with that statement.
When we worked on PHatLip! 4.2, we did voter education drives. We felt that it was better to have an educated voter than one who does not know how it works. Why just give someone the power to vote just to give it away to a party who does not speak for them? Folks think we only have two choices. I will agree, we do have a two party system but that is not built in (originally the framers of the constitution did not want any factions in any level of government... but that's another blog). There are plenty of other parties (I personally lean towards the Libertarian like Bill Maher, but that again is another blog) one can choose. Many folks will say "why do that? you are wasting a vote..." Remember that entry EVERYONE ignored? I am talking about local politics, we don't VOTE for the president of the U.S.
And yeah, i will continue to talk about this stuff until one of you comments... (like at gunpoint)
