In September 25th-28th, we have Mestre Cafuringa coming from Texas to Old Dominion University for a workshop
On the 25th, we are going to have a lecture/demo/panel discussion hosted by Minds About Progress (MAP) with members of CUA (Capoeira Uhuru Association). That is free and will be located at ODU WEbb Center's River Rooms at 7pm. We will also be registering people on that.
On the 26th, 27th, and 28th we will have the actual workshops. ALL AGES, SEXES, and WALKS OF LIFE ARE WELCOME.. you are never too old or too young to learn capoeira.
For all three days the workshop will be $60. if you want to come to just one or two days, it's $25 per workshop. There will also be a seperate SAMBA (brazilian dance) class for $10.
here are the dates and times for the workshops:
Friday Sept 26th, 2003 7pm - 9pm (6:30pm for registration)
Saturday Sept 27th, 2003 12:30pm to 2:30pm (12 pm for registration)
Sunday Sept 28th, 2003 12:30pm to 2:30pm (12 pm for registration)
Sunday will be followed by a big open roda (there may be a
performance sometime in there so stay tuned)

I went to work at the group home today. I thought Norfolk was hit bad, Portsmouth was devastated. Once again, much of the damage is nothing compared to what Hurricane HUgo did and other natural disasters. BUt to an already impoverished area, a thunderstorm can do so much. once again, it could have been worse.
what's crazy is that the authorities decided to let people on a little secret: no emergency service. So of course people took advantage of it. There has been some looting. What an amazing group of people to have decided to tell us that. Of course, many people took advantage.
Overall it could have been worse.
